UL-Rated Firestop Systems

Firestop systems are essential for safety, ensuring that walls, floors, and penetrations contain the products of combustion giving building occupants a chance to escape. Different firestop products and systems are designed and tested to various UL-rated standards. These standards can include:

F-Rating: Time the system contains the products of combustion in terms of hours.
T-Rating: Time the system prevents the passage of 325F on a metal penetrant from one side of a barrier to the other.
L-Rating: Air leakage performance.
W-Rating: Water resistance for floor penetrations.

UL tested systems must be installed exactly specified in the UL drawing to maintain their ratings.
UL-rated systems are required for code compliance in most commercial or industrial jobs. We carry a variety products specified for use in those system to achieve the required ratings, including UL 1479 (for through-penetrations) and UL 2079 (for joint systems).

Collars/Wraps

Firestop collars and wraps quickly expand and collapse piping when exposed to fire, reducing the passage of smoke and flame. Our selection of firestop collars and wraps includes SpecSeal® SSC Firestop Collars and SpecSeal® SSW Wrap Strips. Together, these collars and wraps can collapse non-metallic piping up to 12 inches in diameter.

Foams/Blocks

Fire block foams work as sealants to effectively stop the spread of smoke and fire. Made from a professional-grade polyurethane, these foams are popular in Type V residential construction for HVAC applications.

Openings/Plugs

For plugging or filling gaps, we offer firestop plugs including SpecSeal® SSB Firestop Pillows and SpecSeal® SSM Firestop Mortar. Firestop pillows are designed to compress or conform around penetrants, while mortar can be applied to concrete walls and floors to fill gaps.

Putties

Putties are excellent for creating non-permanent seals. SpecSeal® SSP Firestop Putty is non-hardening and can be removed and reformed to allow for future changes or work. Commonly used for outlet boxes and cabling penetrations, putty creates a continuous seal against fire and combustion.
